Wastewater Treatment
The City of Belfast Wastewater Treatment System consists of 31 miles of gravity sewer lines and force mains, 18 pump stations, and a 1,490,000 gallon per day secondary wastewater treatment facility.
Department Objectives
Collect and treat all wastewater in as cost effective manner as possible to protect human health and the environment.
Ensure that the wastewater treatment facility discharge consistently meets or exceeds regulatory permit standards to maintain existing ambient water quality standards and beneficial uses.
Treat and dispose of sludge in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Plan for equipment preventive maintenance, repair, and system upgrades to maximize pump station, wastewater facility, and collection system efficiency and longevity.
Sewer Use Fee’s
The City of Belfast semiannual sewer billing is based on quarterly water meter readings provided by the Belfast Water District for residential, commercial, and industrial users connected to the public sewer.
Fee schedule:
July 2020 through June 2021 – 0 to 2,000 cubic feet - $132.48
Greater than 2,000 cubic feet - $6.62/hundred cubic feet
July 2021 through June 2022 – 0 to 2,000 cubic feet - $139.10
Greater than 2,000 cubic feet - $6.96/hundred cubic feet
