General Assistance Notice
The municipality of Belfast administers a General Assistance Program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA-4304, the Municipal Officers have adopted an Ordinance establishing that program. A copy of the Municipal Ordinance is available for public inspection at the Belfast General Assistance office. Also available for inspection is a copy of the General Assistance Statutes.
Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at the City of Belfast’s General Assistance Office.
In the event of an EMERGENCY, occurring after normal City Hall Business Hours, which are Monday-Thursday 7am to 6pm, applicants may contact the Belfast Police Department at (207) 338-2420 and ask them to contact the General Assistance Administrator, Kristi Osgood.
The municipality’s General Assistance administrator must issue a written decision within 24 hours of receiving an application.
