Bed & Breakfast

Please refer to the City Ordinances on Bed and Breakfasts (PDF).

A Bed and Breakfast Establishment is required to have the following permits/licenses with the City of Belfast before opening to public.

  1. Victualers License (PDF): This License allows you to serve food at your establishment, and we do need to see proof of your State of Maine Food License submitted each year with application. This application needs to be completed and submitted to the City Clerk's Office. This license expires each year in May, and each business can be included on a group rate for Newspaper ads. If this is the first time and it does not fall within the time frame of the group ads, you will be charged individually by the newspaper publishing your ad. This application will go to Public Notice and be presented at the next available Council Meeting held by the City of Belfast for approval. If this is the first application, the Council does request that you attend the Public Hearing in case any questions may arise.
  2. Bed and Breakfast License (PDF): This License allows you to operate as a Bed and Breakfast within the City of Belfast. Please complete this application in full and return to the City Clerk's Office. This application will be presented at the next available Council Meeting held by the City of Belfast for approval. If this is the first application, the Council does request that you attend the Meeting in case any questions may arise.
  3. State of Maine Liquor License: This License allows you to offer complimentary wine and beer at your establishment. Please contact the State of Maine, Liquor License Division with any questions. To contact the Division, please call (207) 287-4472 or email them by emailing Maine Liquor. This application needs to have Public Notice, and be approved by the City Council before it can be sent to the State of Maine for approval.  If this is the first application, the Council does request that you attend the Public Hearing in case any questions may arise.
