Position Opening

 Join us as the new Youth Services Librarian at the Belfast Free Library.  Play an important role in an active, well supported public library.  Inspire children to a lifelong love of reading and learning.  Come to beautiful Belfast by the bay--a thriving, culturally vibrant small city on the Maine coast.

Qualifications for this position include:


            --ALA/MLS degree

            --Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

            --Experience working with children, preferably in a public library

            --Strong public service orientation

            --Extensive knowledge of children’s literature

            --Familiarity with and ability to use current technology, including e-books

            --Eagerness to learn and try new ideas

            --Experience with developing library programming


Essential duties include:

            --Collection development

            --Planning and implementing enlightening, fun programs for youth

            --Incorporating technology into children’s services

            --Publicizing and promoting children’s services within the community

            --Working with current staff to develop programs for teens

            --Readers advisory

            --Checking material in and out and assisting with other circulation tasks

            --Shelving books and other items


Position is full-time.   Current beginning rate of pay starts at $19.39 per hour, plus benefits.
